Nascar – Motorsport bigger than life
The lights come on, the stands fill up with colourful fans, the teams prepare their multi-million dollar machines for a gruelling race, I’m talking about the phenomenon that is Nascar (National Association for Stock Car Auto Racing).

Two Nascars in action on a banked circuit
Founded by Bill France Senior in 1947 to be a family owned business that is currently still under control of the France family. The path that Nascar has taken since its beginnings has been huge, now demanding full capacity crowds at most events and a futher 10 million plus viewers at home, with even more worldwide. There is no doubting that Nascar is here to stay regardless of a hiccup with the economy.
To all those in other countries where circuit, and I mean proper cornered circuit racing is the norm. It’s ok to like Nascar, its adrenalin packed racing. Just because its predominantly raced on banked oval tracks, doesn’t mean its easy going from start to finish. It incorporates some tough manoeuvres, bumper to bumper laps and a far higher chance of crashing. And just like other forms of auto sport, you dont let a torn bumper or smashed window stop you racing.
Tune in, shut up and see if you can enjoy the biggest motorsport show on earth.
