Shane Warne – King of Spin

There is a man who changed the way we thought about spin bowlers in international cricket. He invented methods of delivery no one had ever seen before, confused a veteran batter in England by spinning the ball across the face of his legs to get him out. He is now a professional poker player crusing the worlds casinos as a newly single man, and recently there was even a musical about his life.

He is of course Shane Warne, known for his off field actics as much as on the field. And that is what annoys me no end, why should someone who is payed to play a sport professionally, have his name and credibility dragged through the mud due to adultery after hours? Yes that is a crime against his family and marriage, but nothing else. Its a private concern for those involved and not for the media to waltz about with day to day. He is a sportsman, not a moral example. He doesnt need to be, because he has the right to do as he pleases. You see, they say children look up to him and he is a role model and therefore should not be doing such things. But it is also the responsibility of the media when they report it, because if they dont tell us, then the kiddies wouldnt hear it. They would call him a love rat amoungst other things, which is unfair because we dont fully understand the reasons why he did it and what situation his personal life was in. So dont go parading the small section of the story you have because it makes people look worse than they really should. I give Shane the benefit of the doubt, for exactly that reason, there is doubt involved. The whole story is unknown because he did not tell us, and rightly so, because that is personal, not public property. A life in the limelight for sport or other pursuits does not automatically allow for the public to demand answers on the way you live you life. Hold back and report on his sporting and charitable endeavours, what ever the case may be, but when it comes to publically destroying a mans credibility, for whom his kids will be teased at school about, that is wrong.

Go up and report on real events in the world, rather than a man cheating, because last time I heard, that was a regular occurance, but when he is well known it seems to be a top news story. They are famous, but they are also humans in the end.
