Silent Letters – The English Language’s Nightmare

As the years have ticked by, so many things that our lives evolve around have changed to suit the day. The English language has also undertaken changes. I remember being taught the rule 'I' before 'E' except after 'C'. Well that works until you come along a word like 'Science' or 'Policies" and the list goes on. But I'm not here to discuss poorly thought our rules.

I have a hatred for an annoying portion of the English language, and I'm talking of none other than silent letters. Words that use this demeaning habit are "Know" with the silent 'K', or 'Numb' with the silent 'B'. Is there a point to the silent letter? I don't think so, they have never made any sense to me, all through school I kept thinking that if the letter is silent and most of the time the word is spoken, then where is the sense in adding silent letters? Even when put on paper, the word has no reasoning for adding useless letters which don't even change the pronunciation.

I therefore call for a complete removal of silent letters, which I understand is probably impossible now, but it is a nice thought considering the annoyance of the rule.
