Masterchef – make some REAL food

masterchef-logoMasterchef is un-doubtly the biggest television show of both last year and this year, however it falls short in one area. Making a real meal, time and time again we have the contestants creating peculiar foods that are almost never served up at home. Using various parts of animals that most of us didn't know even existed.

I've seen dishes created with such miniature portions, you would be making a bee line for the nearest McDonalds after eating it. Knowing that if you don't, you may starve. I'm all for food exploration and creating different dishes for the highlight of their skills, but where is the traditional aussie parma?

There has been a noticeable absence through both seasons, with plenty of opportunities to create it and yet we have had no takers. I've seen burgers that are so tall it would have to be eaten layer by layer without the enjoyment of a complete burger experience. There have been deserts with so many side components that it seems you have to dip and roll and slide the desert to come up with the end result.

The judges are clever, they really make the show what it is. For three non-television personalities to create the presence and x factor that they do is exceptional. I don't think the majority of chefs out there could do what these judges do every week.

The contestants are mostly suffering from 'look at me, look at me' disease and often choose a particular fashion statement to make their own. I think it's a cooking show, therefore there should be more contestants worried about their dishes and not their trademark scarf or hat.

Masterchef represents the troublesome 3% of the restaurant industry, not what the rest of us eat.
