Sexual Disfunction Ads
Listening to the radio used to consist of a host talking, some music and a few advertisements. But things change, and when they do, it’s generally for the worst. This is the case with recent advertisements for a male erectile dysfunction technology from a company called AMI (Advanced Medical Institute). The company aims to help men who have difficulty in the bedroom with maintaining an erection and premature ejaculation. The key to the advertising varies from women speaking of their ‘quick in bed’ men, males speaking about how they need to improve to keep their women happy and the list goes on.
One of the keys to the sales of this product is men don’t discuss these problems amongst each other due to embarrassment and the fact men don’t normally discuss such personal issues. So if the product has the unfortunate outcome of not working, the word wont spread as no men would want to admit they used the product in the first place. Second to that the ads use very clever terms to up the credibility of the product, claiming their head doctor overseas all cases, using the term technology when referring to a common form of medicine delivery like nasal spray.
The thing about prescription drugs is they require a doctor to prescribe them, and drugs of regular public use are generally pharmacy only drugs, then you have this product, which can be ordered over the phone without ever needing to see a doctor or take a prescription to a pharmacy. The laws covering those prescription drugs allow for drugs to be regulated and controlled, and of those drugs that don’t get sold through a pharmacy other than paracetamol, they often contain natural ingredients and rely on the placebo effect to stay in business. And let’s face it, like I mentioned earlier, men won’t discuss the products failings.
The male sex issues that AMI relies on for business, could be partially blamed on the topic being talked about in public by the AMI ads themselves. There is nothing that makes people more paranoid then by telling them of an issue, and leave it at that for them to believe they suffer from the condition.
All I ask is that the radio ads, billboards and now even television commercials just go away. And when you make your next ad, don’t tell me that thousands of Australian men are calling every day, because there are only around five million possible candidates (ruling out older people, children and homosexuals) and at that rate, well you would stop getting calls after a week or so.
No Boys Allowed…
There was two constants 50 years ago in the world of scouts and guides, one was for boys, the other was for the girls. But as our world slowly falls into a domain of political correctness, we find ourselves with Boy Scouts dropping the 'boy' part and Girl Guides keeping the 'girl' part. This all begun because there was a landmark case in which a young girl wanted to join the Boy Scouts, instead of moving to Girl Guides as they use to after their stint in Cub Scouts (the younger age level). There was reason for her wish, a Girl Guides group was too far away and the Scouts was all she had a chance at, and so the legal battle begun. It was fought for a few months and settled in favour of the young girl. The organisation dropped it's 'boy' status and moved with the times. Now there are a huge amount of young girls in the movement, which is a great thing. But my gripe starts with the Girl Guides, who had a similar case and somehow managed to defend itself, sending a poor boy who only wished of joining his sisters in the Guides. They claimed that he would be a sexual distraction and possible grounds for abusive situations in the coming years. All this was predicted whilst he was only seven years old.
Amazing that someone decided his fate long before it had a chance to play out. Yet with the minority girls in a dominant male environment seem to have no problems, and they are out numbered. But one young boy would prove to be a problem. They claimed they had no facilities to deal with having one boy and several girls. Yet the same courts decided the Scouts similar argument had no grounding.
I personally went through Scouts and enjoyed the atmosphere and equality that the girls brought to the group and never had a desire to go to Guides. But I think that if the Scouts were made to change, why can't the Girl Guides show some modern day decency and match them.
Warhammer – what a shame
Playing board games or imaginary role playing games as a kid is all part and parcel of youth. But when you deliberately set out to the shops to buy a certain game called Warhammer, that is a mentally disturbing condition. I first came into contact with Warhammer when I was at the shops and walked past a shop that had a bunch of fat middle aged men painting dolls and playing a game on a weird mini battle field. When I got home I researched what I saw on the internet only to laugh myself silly.
The jist of the game is you play your figures/dolls that have a point value capable of defeating the other army by winning with more point hits. They don't feel content to play on a table, and instead make a specially built battlefield, complete with mini trees, grass and fortress'.
I don't mind people taking part in such things in the privacy of their own homes, but when they take over a perfectly good retail location and sit there with their bum cheeks hanging out, pretending to be a war general, well that's just wrong.
They paint their figurines with the delicate strokes of a French pastry chef creating a royal wedding cake, and for what? To make their game even more time consuming? I just want Warhammer to be banned for the moral sake of society.
