TV ad warnings
Lately I have seen ads with warnings about their simulation of real life events. In short, they alter their ad to show a quicker product in action. Samsung are a recent subscriber to this advertising brainchild. Their new phone has a drawing app which must be slower than the ad tends to show as the warning at the bottom of the screen says "simulation is faster than normal use".
Another is for Transitions lenses in eyewear, it shows horses in a field and a graduated dial, the image is dark and the warning says "for simulation purposes only". A hand reaches to the dial and alters the light and the viewer can now see the horses better. Thank god they put that warning there because I thought the glasses would allow me to turn a giant volume knob to alter the light of the planet, physically changing the intensity of the sun.
I've seen car ads with "overseas model shown" as they drive by the camera. Assuming they are either too cheap to re-shoot the ad or the overseas model looks better. What crap are they sending instead of that beautiful European sedan I see on my telly?
Warnings are for the ignorant, they are there to avoid confrontation when people are misled. But these same ignorant people won't read the warnings. Leaving it up to the lonely salesman to break the news.
Nb. By the way how's my grammar here boys?
People can be thick
In my daily activities I come across people that defy logic with how they have survived to the age they are with the intelligence they lack. You can only assume society has watered down life so much that even animals might be able to claim the dole.
I was talking to a man today who understood English enough to run his own business and yet needed me to explain something to him four times and even then I don't think he got it.
If Oprah doesn't have a segment about it or 'Today Tonight' hasn't put it into its weekly cycle of repeated articles then these people wont learn about it.
These are the same very people who vote in governments because of a $200 bonus they will get, without the understanding that same government has three years to make a small tax change to get it back. Think long term that's all I ask of you. Don't wonder why you can't afford to fix the broken fridge when you never put $10 a week away in a slush fund to pay for emergencies such as those. Because believe me, these dramas keep on coming, it's commonly known as 'life'.
Learn to listen to what is being said so you might not need to ask for a fourth repeat of a simple 10 word sentence.
Victorian Public Transport
Public transport is in a state of disarray in Victoria. We have seen three different companies tackle the management of our trains over the last decade. The current punter being Metro, a company 60% owned by a Hong Kong based MTR. They have done what others have done before them, changed the train livery, swapped out uniforms and punched out some tv and radio ads. But they have also continued the late arrival times and overcrowded carriages that we have been seeing day in day out for years. MTR run an extremely tight system in HK, but they overestimated the poor system we have in place. Firstly it's above ground, second our tracks are built to withstand opposite extreme temperatures. Which like all things made to a diverse range of operating difference, they don't work.
Our previous state government also buried us into a $1Billion+ mess that is Myki. A ticketing system created from scratch when systems elsewhere in Australia and even more successful ones overseas were already operating and cost a mere couple of hundred million.
I refuse to use public transport were possible. I'd rather drive into the city and pay for parking than to catch a train.
